Summary

Mount&Blade: Warband is an action role-playing video game developed by TaleWorlds and published by Paradox Interactive. It was released on March 30, 2010 as a stand alone sequel to the original Mount&Blade, introducing several new features. Due to the way the game was set up, it allowed for a wide variety of mods to be made.

The Floris Mod Pack is primarly a combination of a lot of good mods created by the community, bringing them together to enhance the gameplay experience of the user. But in the course of time it evolved into something more by adding unique features. Due to all the different mods and features this pack adds, it has grown quite large in size, almost three times as much as the original game. To make Floris available to as much people as possible, me and my team made several different versions that can all be installed from one installer. And since all iterations have been downloaded over 300,000 times, it has rightfully claimed its place among the great Warband mods.

A full list of features can be found here. Here's a shortlist to give you an impression:

  • 1288 new items, bringing the total of ingame items to 1891.
  • 109 new songs.
  • 1103 new sound effects.
  • Improved graphics.
  • 6 new unique companions, with the dialogue and storyline to make them unique, bringing the total number at 22.
  • Reworked scenes.
  • A lot of new features, like pre-battle orders and deployment, seafaring, tournament play enhancements and custom troop trees.

Computer programs used

The creation of this mod asked for a wide variety of computer programs and languages.

Languages

  • Module System: This is the basic programming language created by TaleWorlds specially for this game. All the scripts, features, dialogues etc. are written in this language.
  • Python: Python is a general-purpose, high-level programming language whose design philosophy emphasizes code readability. Once the game or mod is written in the Module System, it is compiled by Python. But due to the complexity of the mod I had to rewrite this compilation process.
  • Inno Setup: Inno Setup is a free script-driven installation system. After the completion of a new version of the mod, I used Inno to create an installer that gave the users the ability to install the different versions of the mod.

3D-modelling and graphics

  • OpenBRF: This program is an editor for .brf-files, which store 3D-models and their properties. Models and their textures can be edited, but it can also import and export them for use in other programs.
  • Meshlab: 3D-modelling software with an excellent capability to create .lods.
  • Wings3D: Another 3D-modelling software which I used to edit and create .obj-files.
  • Gimp: Gimp is an image retouching and editing tool. I used this to create and edit for example textures.

Other

  • Sound Forge: I used this digital audio editing suite to edit the songs and sounds I collected in this mod.
  • WinMerge & BeyondCompare: These two programs can compare files and directories, point out the differences and allow you to edit them immediately. I used them both for example to update the mod, and implement new features.
  • Notepad++: There are a lot of editors that lighten the editing load. I've choosen Notepad++ for this mod since it combines Notepad's elegance of simplicity with excellent advanced features.
  • Scene Editor: I used the ingame scene editor to create new scenes for the mod.

Downloads

You can download the latest version of the mod from several places:

  • Floris: On the TaleWorlds forum the mod has his own subforum, where you can find discussions, the latest information and of course the downloads.
  • ModDB: This is a site dedicated to mods for different games, where Floris has found his place. The Floris od pack has been given an average of 9.5 by the users.
  • Nexus: Another site dedicated to mods of several games. Since the launch of the Mount&Blade section, the Floris Mod Pack has been most endorsed mod.
